U of C's Contribution

The Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research is a research partnership by the University of Lethbridge, the University of Alberta, and the University of Calgary.

The centre’s co-directors are Dr. Stuart Rood, Board of Governors Research Chair in Environmental Science at the U of L, Dr. Daniel W. Smith, Canada Research Chair in Environmental Engineering at the U of A, and Dr. Ed McCauley, Canada Research Chair in Population Ecology at the U of C and a Theme Leader for Water Ecology.

Dr. Ed McCauleyThe U of C also has a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Theoretical Inorganic Chemistry (Dr. Tom Ziegler) and plans to establish two additional Canada Research Chairs in water research. The three partnering universities have committed an unprecedented 10 research chairs to the centre, including three from the U of C.

Other U of C researchers helping to lead this initiative include: Dr. Laurence Bentley, Geology and Geophysics (Watersheds Theme Leader); Dr. John Post, Biological Sciences (Water Ecology Theme Leader); Dr. Angus Chu, Civil Engineering (Safety of Water and Wastewater Theme Leader); Dr. Ted Horbulyk, Economics (Economics, Policy and Risk Theme Leader), Dr. François Bouchart (Civil Engineering), Dr. Masaki Hayashi (Geology and Geophysics), Dr. Leland Jackson (Biological Sciences), Dr. Bernhard Mayer (Physics and Astronomy/Geology and Geophysics), Dr. Cathryn Ryan (Geology and Geophysics), Dr. Derald Smith (Geography), and Dr. Caterina Valeo (Geomatics Engineering).
