This initiative involves the Advancing Canadian Wastewater Assets Project (ACWA) and the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research. The ACWA Research Facility is Phase I of the University of Calgary's Pine Creek Research Centre. Owned and operated by the U of C in a unique partnership with the City of Calgary's Pine Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant (to be commissioned in 2007), the ACWA Research Facility will include the world’s only full-scale, integrated, complete water cycle facility for research on alternative modes of wastewater treatment and the impacts of urban wastewater on aquatic systems. The Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research is a world-class institute focusing on studies and applications related to the health of freshwater systems. The centre is a research partnership among the University of Lethbridge, the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. (Link to Alberta Ingenuity website) “We are convinced that this centre will become a world leader in international research. (Bill Bridger, President, Alberta Ingenuity Fund (in announcing the new water research centre in October, 2003) | “This is really going to create a lot of opportunities for building research capacity among faculties at the U of C and strong collaborative partnerships among research groups at the U of C, U of A and U of L.” Dr. Ed McCauley, Canada Research Chair in Population Ecology at U of C, Co-Director of Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research |
