Wastewater treatment plants represent a $9-billion capital investment in Canada alone. The research will assist Canadians to maximize the performance of this investment while also enhancing management of health risks. Canadian-developed novel technologies for wastewater treatment can be deployed at home and exported for use around the world. International and national groups and individuals – from academia, government, municipalities, and the manufacturing and consulting industries – have already expressed interest in participating in AWCA research. Gaining a better understanding of our country’s freshwater resources will help us utilize, conserve and protect our lakes, rivers and streams in a sustainable way that benefits current and future generations. The Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research will offer a case study for water resource research and water management policy worldwide – while training highly qualified personnel and recruiting and retaining world-class researchers. | ![]() |
