Centre for Advanced Solar Materials
The Centre for Advanced Solar Materials is dedicated to solving issues that are central to solar energy conversion and storage.
Building on leading expertise in chemistry and materials science, the researchers are designing novel materials to convert sunlight to electricity and fuels.
Focus: Solar Energy Conversion Materials
The researchers are internationally recognized for their high-impact scientific contributions, particularly in four areas related to solar energy conversion materials:
-
Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells: they can produce power conversion efficiencies in excess of 10% using cheap and non-toxic materials.
-
Organic Photovoltaics: they present a low-cost alternative to conventional solar cells in terms of materials and processing.
-
Solar Fuels: they harness the abundant energy of sunlight in the form of chemical bonds—storable and portable energy.
-
Nanomaterials: they offer opportunities for solar energy conversion because of the novel properties that arise from their reduced dimensions.
