Applying for placement in the EES Specialization requires a two-step process.

Click here for a description of the Process and Requirements. ISEEE's EES office is here to help you through the two-step application process:

1. Apply to either a disciplinary graduate program which can be linked to the EES Specialization or the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program which can also be linked to the EES Specialization.

2. To be considered for the EES Specialization, apply using this online application form.

We strongly encourage students to apply to both a disciplinary graduate program and the EES Specialization at the same time. Different programs have different application deadlines. By synchronizing their disciplinary graduate application with their EES application, students stand the best chance of enrolling in their preferred program during the desired semester.

ISEEE recognizes that some students may require assistance to identify the disciplinary graduate program that is the best fit given their academic background and research interests. Our EES office can help. Email Lisa Moy, Graduate Program Administrator, and include in your note some information about yourself as well as information about your general area of interest. By getting to know you better, we can help to match you up with a specific University of Calgary faculty, school, department, or – ideally – a potential supervisor.

Advice on filling out the EES Specialization online application form:

When you use the online form to apply for to EES Specialization, you’ll be asked to upload a copy of your CV and transcripts. In filling out the form, please take note of the following:

In the “Personal Statement” box, please tell us a little bit about yourself. We can best help you through the application process by learning about your academic background and the work experiences that motivated your decision to apply to the EES Specialization. If you have apparent weaknesses in your application materials — e.g. a low GPA, an extended period of time between your last degree and the timing of this application, etc. — please explain them here.

The information you provide in the “Interdisciplinary Research Interests” box is one of the most important parts of your application, so please provide as much detail as possible. Be sure to address each of the following items: (1) Information about your academic and research interests; and (2) Information about the interdisciplinary problem(s) or topic(s) that you wish to study during your graduate degree program.

In the space labeled “Faculty/Department”, please check the box of the disciplinary faculty or department where you are applying for graduate study.
